What We Do:

Picture
Whether in the form of design, cutting timber frames, leading straw bale building crews, or teaching workshops, the work of Highland Artisan is to build connection.

Some people need an adviser to plan with or a coach to work side-by-side with them.   Other projects call for the focused power of a community of friends and family to raise timbers, stud walls, or straw bales.

If you want to be part of a collaborative design process for your home; or to assist with building your project, learning new skills and helping where you can; or if you would like to be part of a community building project, we look forward to hearing from you.

We advise or work side-by-side with owner-builders
We design in collaboration with our clients
We lead timber frame-raisings, straw bale wall-raisings, plaster parties
We lead community builds for playgrounds, barns, and other structures
We teach workshops centered around clients' projects
We facilitate team-building while building real structures
And we are interested in exploring these ideas with you.

About Sarah Highland:

Sarah Highland builds and designs with timber, clay, straw, brick, and slate.   Her work is an exploration of how to create buildings that feel alive, and how to build community while building structures.   As principal of Highland Artisan, she teaches workshops, designs homes, and cuts timber frames.   In addition she works with owner-builders and community groups as consultant and build leader.
